GUEST INFORMATION

  • Club Electronic Device Policy
    • The Club recognizes the increasing use of communication devices and tablets in our daily lives. In an attempt to balance both the need to communicate with family for emergency purposes as well as to enjoy reading quietly, the Club has developed the following new electronic device use policy. Members are reminded that the Club is a private social environment. Limited use of electronic devices is permitted throughout the Club as specified below. Device use should not impede or intrude on use of Club facilities or the Members' enjoyment in any way. All usage is subject to Management's discretion. Such intrusions include, but are not limited to:

      • Excessive noise
      • Excessive typing
      • Member complaints

      Cell Phone Talking Policy

      The Club has a strict "no talking" cell phone policy. Cell phone usage for the purpose of a phone call is permitted in designated areas only. Those areas are, the parking lot and the area at the west entrance of the pool house adjacent to the platform tennis courts. Talking on a cell phone is prohibited in all other areas of the club.

      Golf Course, practice areas and halfway house

      No electronic beeping, ringing or other sound from an electronic device of any kind is allowed. In these areas the policy does permit GPS, email, texting and laser range finders and instructional electronic devices such as IPad’s and video cameras. Please be cognizant of the appropriate pace of play as described in our club handbook.

      The Trophy Room, Windmill Grill and Ball Room and Back Deck areas

      No electronic beeping, ringing or other sound from an electronic device of any kind is allowed. Electronic devices can only be used for taking and viewing pictures, all other smartphone and tablet functions including but not limited to email, texting and web browsing are strictly prohibited.

      The 19th Hole, Golf and Tennis Pro Shops

      The Club has a "no sound" policy when using any type of electronic device. No electronic beeping, ringing or other sound from an electronic device of any kind is allowed. In these areas email, texting , web browsing and electronic readers are allowed.

      Pool Facility

      The Club has a "no sound" policy when using any type of electronic device. No electronic beeping, ringing or other sound from an electronic device of any kind is allowed. At the pool email, texting, web browsing and electronic readers are permitted.

    • What is NOT permitted

      • Verbal cell phone usage is strictly prohibited anywhere except for designated areas.
      • No sound may emanate from a cell phone or any other electronic device at the Club.

      What IS Permitted

      • Verbal cell phone usage is permitted in the parking lot and the designated pool house area.
      • Quiet texting and reading is permitted in designated areas as defined in this policy.
  • Clubhouse Dress Codes
    • Clubhouse Dress Codes are as follows:

      Southward Ho is proud to maintain its reputation as a premier country club in the United States by sustaining its traditions and commitment to excellence for the benefit of its members, their families, guests, and our community.
      Denim:

      • A dress code is essential to preserve these traditions. Dark tailored dress jeans are permitted anytime, anywhere at the club, with the exception of (i) golf course, (ii) driving range, and (iii) tennis courts, where denim of any kind is not permitted.
      • Dress jeans must be tailored (no rolled up hems and not cut off). They must be dark in color and free from holes, tears, frays and shall not be distressed, cargo, baggy or acid washed.
      • Women’s colored and white jeans are permitted.

      Please note that gentlemen are encouraged, but not required, to wear a sport coat along with their jeans.

      1. Trophy Room (fine dining area) Fridays & Saturdays Jacket is required.
      2. Attire acceptable for wear on the Golf Course and Tennis Courts is also acceptable in the Mens’ Lounge, Tillinghast Grill, Havemeyer Bar & Lounge all day.
      3. Footwear is required outside of the locker areas. Flip Flops, Sandals or other open toed shoes are not permitted for men in the Clubhouse, Men’s Lounge, Tillinghast Grill, Havemeyer Bar.
      4. Employees of the clubhouse have been instructed to notify the Hostess or Manager of any violations of the clubhouse dress code. The Hostess or Manager shall call to the attention of any member or guest his/her violation of the dress codes. Any violation that is not corrected immediately shall be reported to the House Committee.

      Exceptions to the dress code in the Banquet Dining Room must be approved by the House Chairman or General Manager.

      Golf Dress Code:

      The dress code standards are in place to ensure members and guest experience a high level of enjoyment while visiting the club. Our staff is available to answer any questions members may have regarding the dress code. Staff has also been directed to courteously remind any members not compliant with the standards.

      All members, family members and guests shall be neat and wear appropriate golf attire at all times. The dress code for golf applies to the putting green, driving range, practice area, and locker rooms, as well as the golf course. Complete lists of acceptable and unacceptable attire are posted in the locker rooms and pro shop.

      MEN:
      Men are to wear slacks or Bermuda style shorts and shirts with collars. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. Turtle necks or mock turtle necks with long sleeves are allowed. Billed hats must be worn forward.

      Not Permitted: Jeans or denim clothing of any kind or color, cut-offs, baggy cargo shorts with protruding outside pockets (not flat stitched to the material), jogging suits, warm-up suits or exercise clothes, drawstring or elastic waistband pants or shorts or short sleeved mock turtle necks.

      WOMEN:
      Women are to wear tailored slacks, capris, shorts or golf skirts. Shorts, skirts and skorts must be no shorter than mid-thigh. Tops must be tucked in unless designed to be worn outside and must not rise above the beltline at any time during the golf swing. Sleeveless tops must be collared. Tops with sleeves shall be collared or have a high neck. Billed hats must be worn forward. Racerback tops with mock or regular collar are permitted. Leggings are only permitted if worn under skirts, shorts or skorts.

      Not Permitted: Jeans or denim clothing of any kind or color, cut-offs, baggy cargo shorts with protruding outside pockets (not flat stitched to the material), jogging suits, warm-up suits or exercise clothes, tennis skirts, leggings, yoga pants, spandex or stretch clothing, drawstring or elastic waistband pants or shorts. Halter tops, tube tops, tank tops, scoop necks or low cut tops are also prohibited.

      Juniors:

      Same rules as adults apply.

      The Board of Governors has authorized the staff to ask any member or guest to change before using the golf facilities. Any violation that is not corrected immediately shall be reported to the Golf Chairman.

      Tennis/Pickle Ball:

      All players must wear non-marking, smooth-soled tennis shoes. Running shoes are not allowed. All denim is prohibited from the tennis courts and tennis areas.

      Women and Girls: Proper attire for women includes appropriate tennis tops that are designed and marketed specifically for tennis, and which may be sleeveless. Midriffs, and Crop tops, are not appropriate. Proper attire also includes tennis shorts and tennis skirts. Spandex and leggings must be worn with a tennis skirt over them.

      Men and Boys: Collared tennis shirts and non-collared micro-fiber shirts like the ones sold in the tennis shop are appropriate. Shorts that are designed and marketed specifically for tennis are required. Sleeveless shirts are not appropriate, and neither are t-shirts, cutoffs, golf shorts, swimsuits, or tank tops.

      Platform Tennis:

      All players may wear athletic attire including athletic shorts, athletic shirts, workout clothing, warm-up attire and tennis or other non-marking athletic shoes. Denim is only permitted while spectating or inside pool house during paddle season.

      Pool House Dress Code:

      Proper attire is required in the pool and the pool house. Cut-off shorts are not permitted in the pool as bathing wear. All members are expected to adhere to the Club’s dress code and proper decorum is expected. Members are responsible for their children’s and guest’s adherence to the dress code.

      Enforcement of the dress code is handled by the General Manager, Assistant General Manager and the Board of Governors.
